THE ALEXIAD CHORALE

Founded by Composer - Director ELENI TRAGANAS

"The rarity of new Byzantine sacred music compositions made the evening special, and the achievement of Traganas even more extraordinary"

Founded by acclaimed composer & performing artist ELENI TRAGANAS, The ALEXIAD CHORALE was inspired by its namesake, the magnum opus of Anna Comnene of Imperial Byzantium chronicling the life of her father, Emperor Alexius I. Anna Comnene, as well as the Abbess and Hymnographer Kassiane (810-865 AD), were the two notable creative women of Byzantium who broke through the social constraints of their day and boldly composed their original works in their own names. The ALEXIAD CHORALE brings together dedicated singers representing denominations of all faiths to showcase the sacred music of one of Orthodoxy's most notable contemporary composers working within today's Byzantine ecumenical tradition.

"The Alexiad Chorale's entire performance can only be described as angelic, their voices in harmony with the spiritual quality of Traganas' music"
